Relevance:
The course addresses why herbicides are used, the value of herbicides in reforestation, the human health and environmental profile of glyphosate herbicides, and how to safely apply herbicides for silvicultural purposes by air or ground.
Instructors for the course include Dr Len Ritter, Executive Director Emeritus of the Canadian Centers for Toxicology, Dr Ryan Prosser, Assistant Professor of Environmental Biology at the University of Guelph (video), Greg Simm, legal counsel for the College of Alberta Professional Forest Technologists (video) and Milo Mihajlovich.
Forest Professionals with adequate experience in planning and implementing silvicultural herbicide programs, with adequate instructional skills and successfully completing the Tier 2 course may be qualified as instructors for the Tier 1 course.
Audience:
The course is directed toward forestry personnel with direct responsibility for planning, implementing or auditing silvicultural herbicide use and training others.
